Artist's Comments

I like this piece a lot though the coloring hasn't turned out as I expected it. I'm so bad at putting colors...:( But anyway I like a lot the startled moon and her hair:giggle:

A lovely scene. :) What are you using to color? It looks to me like crayon or colored pencil. What aspect of the color are you not happy with, the colors themselves or the application?

Well thank you. very glad you like it. I used some oil colors a friend gave me...It's more an experiment cause I don't know how to use them. I used a napkin to apply them but I'm not satisfied with the outcome...I never had a drawing lesson, or studied Art at some school. All I know I taught me myself...I'm an English teacher you know:) but I've always admired Art and I love drawing more than anything...Quite an irony, isn't it? :P

Self-taught is wonderful! I think learning drawing on one's own is always preferrable.
It sounds like you are using oil paints? I would suggest using them on a primed canvas instead of paper, to get the most out of them, so you don't get the oil soaking into the paper. The yellow color you used looks very nice, but I agree with you about the blue. A good rule of thumb is to use waterbased media for paper, and oilbased for primed surfaces (and you can prime just about anything, from paper to wood to canvas!)

Well thank you for your advices! I'm not quite used to the terms you used not even in Romanian I'm afraid :P, but I checked them out in a dictionary and it's ok.:) I know what you meant now. The yellow is ok cause I didn't apply it with the napkin but I spread the color with my finger. I made this with a lot of other drawings and it looked great. I made an experiment with this one with the napkin...However thanks for your advice once again :)

You're very welcome!
I just want to caution you about using your fingers with oil paints, most all of them contain toxic ingredients that you would never want to let be absorbed through the skin, it's not healthy! brushes or cloths would be far safer.
Happy painting :)

I know what you mean! Fingerpainting can sometimes yield the nicest results, but best to use a brush of some sort. :painter:
